Beckman Lord of Sins The Lonely Lords Grace Burrowes 9781402278600 Books

Not Ms. Burrowes usual homerun. I kept waiting for the story to unfold and take me to a place of total absorption. I loved Beckman. I feel he had so much more to him than was revealed. The story line was there to be expanded and explored, but never seemed to develop to its potential. More time was spent in the bedroom than on the rest of the story. I would have liked to have seen a little more time devoted to letting us see more of the protaganists and less romps in the bedroom. Sex should be the apex and highlight of a story, not the sum total of the tale.

The story plodded along at a slow pace then suddenly wrapped up with enough material for an entire book jammed into the last chapter! Story lines were left dangling and plots were left to puzzle over; what happened? kept going through my mind. I see another book in the future to answer all the unanswered questions and dangling story lines. I love sequels but hate serials! If I buy a book, I expect it to have an ending. Don't force me into buying another book just to find out how the last one ended! That's a sorry ploy by publishers to sell books. Grace Burrowes is too good an author to need that kind of marketing. I would buy her books on her name alone. I was so disapointed in this book, it could have and should have been soooo much more.

Beckman Lord of Sins The Lonely Lords Grace Burrowes 9781402278600 Books Reviews

I love Grace Burrowes writing style. Her descriptions are like poetry, her words soft and gentle so that they flow over and around you. Yet, unlike the previous Lonely Lords novel, this one moves at too slow a pace. The story is good, the secrets and revelations intriguing, but it just took too long to get there. Her pace works when it comes to falling in love...it happens slowly, almost like a dance with each partner learning the steps one at a time. It builds with heat and passion and revelations. It is beautifully written about and provocatively told. The characters become old friends by books end. I will certainly come back to this series and read all 13 tales.
Saying this wasn't the best in the series is not saying much. Grace Burrowes' deft hand with dialogue, especially period dialogue, is masterful, and while this book is on a slow boil, I enjoyed watching the pot. Still, overall this is better than 99% of whats out there, so it's not much of a criticism at all.

Beckman is like all of the Lords in this series He's very tall, well built and well endowed. He's rich, handsome, and he has a secret guilt that prevents him from being able to fully give his heart. And, as usual, the love interest also has secrets she won't tell.

It's very hard to write a description of this book without spoilers. The plot is deliciously convoluted and the characters, including the intriguing Gabriel North, are charming and addictive.

There is always a mystery in the Lords books, some malevolent shadow in the background that threatens a HEA, but this is never done with a heavy hand. Grace Burrowes' is adept at foreshadowing and building the tension commensurate with the threat, so that when the big reveal comes, it all makes sense and is dealt with appropriately. She's really very skilled.

What i like best about this series is knowing I can relax and enjoy the ride. No slasher is jumping out of the bushes to ruin the tone, and by the end there will be a satisfying HEA. And along the way, I get to read gorgeous language and heart rending descriptions of sex between two people who absolutely love one another.

I also loved her inclusion of art, music, and animals in this story. A sow, a cat, and several horses are characters in their own right, and I love how sweet that part of her stories always are.

If you're reading this series, don't miss this book since many of the characters go on to figure in future books. And besides, this book is lovely. I never cry when reading, but I shed tears every time I read Grace Burrowes. Her books are very moving in a heart achingly lovely way.

Highly Recommended to those who seek a quiet period piece with a moving love story, or two, at it's heart.
I really waded my way through this book and it took me awhile to finish. I also kept putting it down and getting distracted. I'm a compulsive reader and rarely put a book down until I've finished it. It was a pleasant enough story and the characters are all likeable but not exciting.

***Spoilers***
I think the H is a Beta with the body of an Alpha and the h was an idiot to keep turning his marriage proposals down. I wasn't comfortable with the 'dalliance' aspect of this book. The h was more aware than most of the possible repercussions of this (possible pregnancy, her daughter finding out) but that doesn't seem to stop her much.

The other thing I'm desperate to know is why the author is so fond of this plot device the h continuously refusing the H's marriage proposals because of secrets in her past? Off the top of my head she used this in The Heir (The Duke's Obsession),The Soldier (The Duke's Obsession),The Virtuoso (The Duke's Obsession),Lady Maggie's Secret Scandal. Maybe there are others but I don't remember. Anyway it's a bit tired for me and I hope she gives it a rest in the future.

I have gone ahead and pre-ordered Gabriel Lord of Regrets because I love a tortured hero.
