The Gathering The Second Draeken War #2 The Chronicles of Lumineia The Second Draeken War Series edition by Ben Hale Literature Fiction eBooks
With every series I read in this mega epic tale, I can't wait to read the next series! I learned pretty quickly to pay attention to names, places & objects for they play an important part of this awesome span of time (trying not to tell any spoilers) somehow, somewhere, sometime. That's part of the beauty of it, it's like one huge 50,000 piece puzzle that slowly starts to slide into place the more books you read. I reviewed some of the lesser stars and I'm guessing maybe they missed this "spoiler" (I had to give you one!) ? If they didn't pay attention how could they "really get it"? Seriously, it's like you get close to the end of finishing your puzzle & realize 15,000 pieces are missing!! I think that would explain a few things maybe?? ... Where I have one situation driving me nuts, so I'm re-read ing part of one book to see if i can find what I missed. It's that awesome! Then onto my last series, sighhhh. Then my journey will be over, until Hale writes again : )))Product details

The Gathering The Second Draeken War #2 The Chronicles of Lumineia The Second Draeken War Series edition by Ben Hale Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I am going to paste my review of book 1 here as I basically review the series and any series as a whole.
I am currently finishing the third book of this series and so far I have greatly enjoyed this entire series. I have very recently finished the Thinblade Sovereign of the Seven Isles Book One series, The Wretched of Muirwood (Legends of Muirwood Book 1) series and the Wielder's Awakening (Wielder Trilogy) trilogy. This is the of the most entertaining series so far. This book has a great angle on the fantasy world of elves, dwarves and humans but of course there are hints of other stories or influences from series such as the Homeland The Dark Elf Trilogy, Part 1 (Forgotten Realms The Legend of Drizzt, Book I) (Bk. 1) series with the dark elves and his use of the double blades and being a blade master. However this story is very different and I have enjoyed it very much. Good read and would recommend to anyone who has enjoyed any of the series mentioned before.
This Book is completely different than the first one. In Gathering, you are on a countdown until Extinction! There is no surrender, there is no quarter, there is even no way to win. All the inhabitants of this world can do is try to survive as Talyn tries to find a way to defeat Draeken. There is an army of Billions coming and they cannot be defeated.
This book is a hard read in only that there is such a feeling of defeat and oppression. There is only a very brief period of time that Talyn and his comrades can gather allies, get them them to cooperate and to gather at the Elven Fortress of Azertorn and they must hold out for 7 days or All the races of this world die. Talyn and a small group won't even be in that battle, they will be hunting for Draeken. It is up to the defenders to live long enough to survive. There are a number of very interesting character introduced in the past book that return and are introduced in this book and they all play a very important and specific individual role.
One of the most powerful scenes in the book is of a Character who is in only one chapter. But in that single chapter He gives his life without question to save hundreds of thousands of People who will never even know what He did. I was shaken after that chapter and had to take a short rest as it was so heartbreaking.
The author constantly reminds you that these people are facing extinction and that they MUST last 7 days after the battle is joined, against an army of Billions. He brings together an enormous amount of Different races and cultures and there is a heavy military tactical sense here. Most of the book is planning defenses, locating and saving(convincing allies to leave their cities to come to the fortress) the Citizenry of this world. There is still plenty of action and things are always moving.
This brings a gripe that I had about the previous book. For whatever reason I still am having a really hard time envisioning alot of the scenes. He has described the Fortress in multiple scenes and I still cannot get the gist of how almost a million people have come together and are fitting in there. But oh well
A very good and very Dark book. I cannot wait until the next one
Not a terrible book, but I felt it was not as good as the first book.. The writing isn't bad - certainly not - it's simply that things were not memorable, and in some ways the contents of this book could likely have been attached to the third book to extend it, rather than call these events out in a separate book.
Picking up almost directly from where the first book left off, the future has been told Draeken is going to send his fiends to destroy the races. In order to combat this threat, the races must come together to build up a defense long enough for Taryn to fulfill his destiny.
The main problem of book spilled over into the next there is simply too much going on and too many people involved. With the exception of a few key characters who stand out due to excellent introductions, there isn't anyone whose name you will remember by the end of the series, which is unfortunate. The intent of the book clearly is to introduce all of these characters who will play a pivotal role in the actual war, yet by the time you finish, you'll end up scratching your head at it all.
The Oracle, Siarra, is portrayed in this book so similar to a druid in Shannara that you're almost left wondering if that was the inspiration. That's not a bad thing - except that her predecessor (found in book 4) acts nothing like this, so you're just trying to sort the character out in your mind.
Taryn, who this time isn't really the protagonist but is a main supporting character, starts to show more abilities and power than he did before. The problem is that the reason for this is never explained. (Book 4 may provide a theory, but it's a distant theory at best).
If I had to sum it up, I would say that too much information was given without enough explanation or quantification. It's worth a read, but I personally felt it was not up to the caliber of the first book.
