Fledge I Am Just Junco Dot Com Book Two J A Huss Books

As the second book in the series you probably don't want to read this review if you haven't yet read book #1 in the series, Clutch.

Junco Coot left Earth with Tier, the Avian soldier who had come to save her. Apparently Junco wasn't the all around human she thought she was. Turns out she was human, Avian, and part AI as well. But for her to survive she needed to morph before her 20th birthday, something all Avians must go through.

Tier returns to Amelia, the space station the Avians live on, with Junco in tow. This is a direct contradiction to his orders, which were to kill Junco, not bring her back to live as one of them. But he figures he ranks high enough that the worst they'll do is demote him, and as long as they get Junco into the tank to morph in time, she'll be safe too.

But, as with most things in Junco's life, almost everything goes awry. Tier is accused if treason and is forced to stand trial. And Junco, well she has issues of her own, starting with surviving something called the 'General Fledge.'

The story progresses at a rapid clip, and for all that Junco is a stone cold killer (@ least in her own eyes, making her the perfect soldier for the one commanding her - but then even that could rapidly become a liability she believes), she shows more and more humanity while with the Aves (the Avian military) than she ever did on Earth. And more of her back story comes to light, helping shed light on why she is the way she is.

There are several new characters introduced, and each one plays an important role in Junco's new life, even if they aren't the roles she had them pegged as playing. The arc of the story is smooth and consistent throughout the book, making for an entertaining read on both the action and psychological fronts, not to mention the level of interest in character development. And again Ms. Huss leaves the reader raring to move right on to the next book in the series, anxious to learn how things will go for Junco and her friends and team/squad-mates.

Fledge I Am Just Junco Dot Com Book Two J A Huss Books Reviews

Junco is a good narrator to follow around as she discovers the Avian world & tries to figure out her place in it. Great plotting & adventures. Good mix of well-detailed action & character development. While many things happen to Junco that have a similar feel to "typical" emotionally cut-off, strong heroines of YA dystopian fiction--she has unique reactions & makes decisions that are not "typical".
The blurb for the series calls it gritty, to make sure everyone understands that this is not one of those young adult novels. There is sex and cursing and violence. Fine with me. There is also well-paced writing, and a real character. As tough as she is and as ruthless as she can be, she is also a person. That's what seals the deal here. It isn't non-stop and mindless violence. I have a lot more to read, already bought. The first was great, too. I can't wait to dive into the rest.
Another amazing storyline filled with twists, turns, action, reactions, shock and devastation. Junco is one tough chick. She doesn't take crap from anyone! I thoroughly enjoyed this second installment from the `I am Just Junco' series.

Taking place a couple months after the first book, Junco has completed the morph into an Avian warrior, wings and all, and must now go through the General Fledge in the Avian City of Amelia, where fighters and the unworthy kill each other off gladiator style for seven separate battles for a chance to join the Avian Clutch of their choice, and for some, for the chance to live. Tier is nowhere in sight for most of this book, (caused me to weep a lot there) until the very end but Ashur and the smorgasbord of man candy hovering around Junco, more than makes up for it.

Junco discovers some more interesting mysteries about herself, her genetics and her very existence. I can't say enough about how complicated the story gets, it makes your brain disintegrate with all the facts, characters, mythology and scenes in this book. I tell you, my brain felt like it had gone through a meat grinder after reading this, but in a good way! It's exhausting keeping up with Junco because the tale weaves itself into your mind and has you experience every fight, tragedy, kiss and shock that Junco goes through, never relenting its grip on you. I was breathless! The fight scenes are described down to the details-gore, blood and all. We get to see more sides of Junco in this story than the prior one, which caused me to feel for the girl more and more. Junco is vulnerable under her metal hard exterior, with one mission in mind the entire time, to save her love Tier from impending doom in the Avian World.

This series is more addictive than chocolate. It totally satiates my love for sci-fi, action, paranormal and romance in one heart pounding swoop. I highly recommend this series, but it's not for the light hearted. Massive swearing and violence dominate the pages but are crucial to the story. Anyone squeamish should not apply.

I'm on to the next book in the series, yes it's that good!
