This wasn't to my taste, but particularly infuriating was that this isn't even a full book. Nothing gets resolved at the ending--not the essential problems that keep the characters apart, not any of the hints that there's some kind of non-romance plot. It's like someone ripped a real book along the spine and sold the first chunk.

Arg, the author wastes so much time on mentioning the king's other kids and in one case it's a complete waste, every sentence spent past the first and some kind of "not going there" (that was needed and never included!!) could have been cut. The editor shares blame that this book has so much low-calorie filler.

Before the ending of the book I was just a bit annoyed that the main characters were hurtfully lying to reach other.

The book isn't to my taste: I saw "gender-flipped royal guard plus stubborn royal" and I should have read more before clicking buy. Not to my taste: the female protagonist constantly puts herself down; her male family are douches to her, and she never gives them the dressing-down they deserve. She's insecure the entire time. Not to my taste: the prince is from a modern nation and IMO real monarchy in this day and age is just pretty authoritarianism. Nor does he ever appear to think of anything solid beyond himself... Like, does he have plans to help people during hurricanes or regrets about not being able to enact some training program for his subjects? Nah.

The first-person viewpoint makes it hard for these 20-something characters to seem anything but shallow... And probably they just are shallow, without anything to care about beyond themselves. It's hard for me to care about them, though.

The sex is hot, but a lot of times the consent is slightly iffy, which also does not endear the male protagonist to me.

Cheeky Royal Royals Undercover Book 1 edition by Nana Malone Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Book 1 of the Royals Undercover. This dramatic read gives you a bit of everything and a whole lot of please give me more. A prince who can't say he's a prince falls for a royal guard on a mission but she can't say it and found a lost brother that doesn't know he's a prince as well. This story is full of angsty situatios, mystery, betrayal and plot twisters. Hella sexy and funny. A fantastic read for sure. Onto the next installment
So I’m back on my royalty kick, what can I say, I like the princess fantasy, if only every once in a while. Going into this book after the novella, I knew that Penny knew Sebastian when they were kids, that they kind of grew up together until he went away to boarding school, so they have a bit of history, which makes it all the more interesting that Penny is sent in as his undercover bodyguard. He really does thing that she’s just his new neighbor, doesn’t recognize her as the little girl he used to know.
This book pulled me in pretty quickly. The drunken bar fight at the beginning was hilarious, I mean Penny and Ariel pretending to be drunk and taking down two huge dude by “accidentally” pantsing a guy and almost knocking out another with water bottles literally made me laugh out loud. Humor is a sure fire way to get me interested in a book. But what kept me hooked what that these two people were relatable. Sure Sebastian is royalty, but he doesn’t want to be. He wants to follow his own dream, not carry the responsibly of a country.
The book really reads like a coming of age story for both Penny and Sebastian. Both of them want something totally different out of life than the duty that is expected of them. Sebastian is desperately trying to find a way out while also trying to get to know his brother. Penny is trying to be what he family wants but hating every minute of it. Honestly, I connected a lot with Penny. She is so underestimated, and frankly not treated that great by some of the men in her life. I was genuinely upset for her when it comes to her brother. She was to be accepted so much, to be love, but doesn’t believe she’s anything but calamity Jane, she doesn’t think her dad is proud of her. Even when she’s excelling at her job she doubts herself.
I loved these two really getting to know each other. Sure Penny knew who Sebastian was, but he let her in, and she did too. They had so much in common and they just really got each other in a way I don’t think either of them had experienced before. Sure there was a lot of lying about who they were that would need to be dealt with later but before all that, man those two could heat up any room.
This book does even on a cliffhanger, but the next book is out so no worries there. Now if you’ll excuse me I have to go find out what happens next.
First off-I hate spoilers! This is an extremely well written book, with well developed characters. I've been a fan of Nana Malone's for a while. These two may well be my favorite couple - vulnerable, passionate and driven by familial obligation. I was rooting for them both to find a way to achieve all of their dreams. And the ending?! Are you kidding me, Ms Malone! Did THAT guy have to deliver the news? Geez! The wait for the sequel (pre-order is our friend) is going to be agonizing.
Oh wow! I read Cheeky Prince and was so ready for this book and it did not disappoint me. Sebastian Crown Prince discovers he has a brother and sister he knew nothing about and sets off to find them in hopes that one will take over the role of ruler when the time comes. Penny is a Royal Guard ..well she's in the Guard and the King sends her to find the Prince this is their story. And a rather good one at THAT. Mind taking it does end in a cliff hanger but we only have to wait until the end of the month to get the next part. Yea. Well written romance that kept me turning the pages.
