This book hits to all fields. It starts out strong with kahli in a frozen wasteland that is new York city. It's a good scene but this book doesn't deal with the post apocalyptic world enough. It's just a backdrop for the story. Not a real factor in this book. There are mentions of the world and things in it but that's about it.

What bugged me was how ill equipped Kahli was in the frozen north. She had a lone knife. Seems to be really careless for somebody that has been on her own since she was 7.

Most of this book takes place in the royal palace. Here the book is a lot of conflicted romance. Kahli goes back and forth between love and hate. It really killed my interest at times. The vampires really came off as foolish to me. You would think that with all that life experience they wouldn't make decisions that will wipe them off the face of the earth.

Another thing you might find annoying. The author hints at a few things. Little questions and observations that key you into a bigger picture. Yet that's all you get. No real answers or developments.

I will read the reviews of the next book before I decide to buy it.

I was quite surprised with this book. I have read everything else by H.M. Ward and I surprised that she had written a book about vampires. Seems so out of the realm of her steamy romances. I was glad I picked this one up. I love paranormal type books and this one definitely delivered. The characters were awesome and the storyline was great! I can't wait to see where this is going!
Vampire Apocalypse #1 Bane
I am always willing to read a different twist on vampires. This was a good YA novel. There were some things that weren't yet explained. Like how Khalie survived on her own since age 7 without any human contact. Why was she so well spoken and even knowledgeble. But still it was a good story with likable and or interesting characters. I do love a strong heroine. It felt like it was an introduction to a series because the book was short and ended with a cliff hanger.
I loved this book! Just to start off saying it. I never thought it would be something this amazing! Bane was an amazing story, unlike that f anything I have read, or even seen a story line for.

After the big 'OMG Vamps!', fiasco with Twilight, my since birth love of them started to fade a bit. They were just not the things you grew up with, but this made me fall in love all over again! Original vampires, but twisted, weak, and running out of time to find a blood source.

I loved how the world just isn't there anymore, it's an ice age! I mean, honestly! How cool is that! Since that wiped out most of mankind, vampires rounded them up into farms, and well, we all know how that is never good. So, the humans became anemic, oh, what a twist! The vampires are weaker now from the weakened blood, but still horrifyingly terrific at the same time!

I love how, you had the Bane, or the halves, which was pretty cool. Then Kahli, (love her name) and Will, just the suspense and a new twist around every corner! I can't wait for more!
Okay so I read the preview of this book and immediately became interested. It's a little different from the normal vampire books that I'm used to. Old age vampires who have drained all humans to the point of being anemic. One child saved from this faith by a "child vampire" which she stumbles across later on in the story. The girl is captured by him and taken to the Queen. One woman with the rich blood of old. One man who saved her as a child to just kidnap her and hand her over to the enemy. A crazy Queen with the desire to kill her and the Queen's husband who desires to do more than taste her blood. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a suspenseful, unpredictable, vampire series.
Interesting twist on the "post apocalyptic" paranormal romance genre. Strong Female characters with hot male's that offer steamy opportunities for relationships. Currently only 2 novels in the series, so there is promise of more to come. Now that the Queen and King have sorted out their power struggle, where does that leave Reggie, the Queen's brother? How will the remaining Bane fit in the future reign? Does Kahli find her mother and others that are fighting for a future? With Cole by her side, is Kahli able to give the remaining anemic humans an opportunity to get stronger and train to fight back for the powerer of control? Looking forward to the advancing story here.
I really loved this book! I was expecting it to be another typical vampire story, but it was a lot more than that. It was a combination of paranormal, dystopian, romance, and fantasy. It had a kick-butt heroine, a loveable love interest, bad guys, angst, mystery, etc. It had quality writing that hooked me in and kept me interested. It did seem a little short, but maybe that's because I was enjoying it so much. I hope book 2 comes out soon! I really want to know what the runes mean.
This book was not what I expected at all. In a good way, I totally enjoyed it. I liked how vampires and the apocalypse was combined. It made sense. And to have the last strong human left? An interesting angle.
Also it wasn't just about the romance, which I'm glad for.But I still wanted Will and karli together .
There was a lot of action and I like when the main female character can kick butt. It's a good extra point to the story. The other characters were all good too. It was well written.
I soo would like to read the next book , it's so interesting.
